I had been feeling the need to store statistics for my website for some time now since I moved off from a Cpanel host and on to a VPS. I asked around and was suggested that I should try out Google Analytics. I had seen Google Analytics being used in a client project as well so I decided to give it a try. It was relatively easy to setup with a google account (I just had to paste some generated java script code into my main typo theme layout file).

There are many thing which I have not even touched in Analytics but they are all geared towards increasing your site traffic (including managing campgains, checking out where are the traffic sources etc). One can also export the reports in XML and PDF (which is good as this means that I am not bound to Google Analytics for ever , if I decide to move over I will use the XML to migrate my data). I now have a measure on how many unique vistors are coming to my site and from which location. I have yet to find in Google Analytics how to check for user IPs though (ping me if you know how to do that)

Google analytics can be described in one word "awsome".

I need to adapt a good CSS and XHTML compliant theme for my website. The current theme is OK, but its not up to par with what modern CSS techniques have to offer. Web design is an art, and although I would like to be able to cook some really cool theme some day , for now I would just use some thing pre- existing.

I have looked into many sites which provide free/open-source web-templates (eg. oswd.org ,openwebdesign.org). One designer whose work I have become fond of is a young Swede named Andreas Viklund. His designs are not only refreshing but also follow strict web and accessibility standards. In is own words why settle for less.

It's been long since I vowed that one day I will finish up a Ruby on Rails text book (and incorporate it in my personal website). Between my job and watching downloaded tv shows I have been really slacking up on that goal. Not for long as I am planning to finish significat portion of new Agile Web Development with Rails (2nd edition , Dec 2006) by this weekend.

It seems there are tons of books available out there for both Ruby and for RoR, but Agile Development with Rails seems to be the lead book. Fortunately the new edition does cover Rails version 1.2 so I can forget about learning old RoR ways and focus on the latest available stuff. The first chapter points out that this new edition is essentially a whole new book as alot of stuff had to be rewritten.Hopefully this book will let me cover alot of ground, but like any book on a web devlopment platform, it is no where near exhaustive. So it will be a long ride to mastery of rails.

I had been contemplating this for a very long time, but its done now. I had bought domain name from GoDaddy.com three months ago and I finally took the time to buy my self a nice hosting plan with a site called RailsPlayGround.com. As the name suggests this site is meant for Ruby on Rails developers to play with their rails applications.

First thing I have done on this site is to Install Typo as my primary blog engine. It would be nice to build my own blog engine one day, but meanwhile I can post my blog entries here and migrate(clean) blog entries from blogger.

I have been seriously looking into getting a full time DSL connection. I think I will go for multinet shared DSL unlimited. The budgest is yet to be decided , but 8-10 k /sec is not that bad. Atleast I would be able to post stuff easily and spend time on open source activities.

I have been spending some time in F-10 office and have shamelessly exhausted the office internet bandwidth. I have got my dad’s P4 working flawlessly with Ubunutu. Its ok but its not like gentoo , the feeling is sloppy and uncustomized. I think I will get a second hand modem and install DSL on my sisters spare P4 along with my 512 MB RAM..or should i get dad’s superior CPU to the office instead.

I have to build a website for a friend. I think I will just use some funky CMS and customize the CSS and design stuff. It will be my first commercial site ever so its a test , how it goes.

I have to be less inflamable and more tolerant of people. I some times do irrational things , just out of spite..but I think I can change.

I came to Abbottabad early with mom. I had a terrible flu. Its still some what there but lets hope my nose stops running.

I have given away my baby Athlon to some one. From now on wards I am probably never going to buy a Desktop.

I have been looking into going for Masters in Australia , Sweden. In Australia a booming economy and job market are lucrative.

I am really fed up with Abbottabad cable people. We have a really poor service here of cable. High speed internet is also virtually absent.

I have yet to start working on my website. . I have started a small test blog for cheking new bloger beta XHTML conformance. It seems Google has some work to do , but I think I can manage some what compliant page in near future by ignoring some features.

Well its not offical yet, but I have completed my degree requiremnets for Bachelors in computer system engineering. Its over…finally. I thank you all who have been wishing me luck and most of all my parents , sisters. Ofcourse I am most thankful to Allah Almighty, may Allah give me oppertunities to serve for good purposes.

Blogger has done some minor updates to its system. I have yet to see them all, but atleast sticking to blogger has finally paid off. It has been almost two years with blogger for me , so It will be fun reading back all posts and tagging them. The site is http://beta.blogger.com Also blogspot.com has been unbanned in Pakistan after a lapse of few months.

I have started looking for job now. Inshallah I hope to start by early Spetember. My primary aim is to get into a place where I can utilize my already accumulated knowldge and can learn more. A very bottom of the ladder job is not my aim (excpet if it’s in Google or Novell

Apparenlty some one owns hatim.com. I will try to get into contact with the person who uses it. So I can buy it.

Update: I was unable to switch from beta.blogger.com , I suspect that google has run out of backupspace. I will try it at a laster stage.
